Grateful for the Thorns

Standard

“To be grateful for the good things that happen in our lives is easy, but to be grateful for all of our lives—the good as well as the bad, the moments of joy as well as the moments of sorrow, the successes as well as the failures, the rewards as well as the rejections—that requires hard spiritual work. Still, we are only grateful people when we can say thank you to all that has brought us to the present moment. As long as we keep dividing our lives between events and people we would like to remember and those we would rather forget, we cannot claim the fullness of our beings as a gift of God to be grateful for. Let’s not be afraid to look at everything that has brought us to where we are now and trust that we will soon see in it the guiding hand of a loving God.” #HenriNouwen #truth #wisdomfromthecoffeehouse #UnabashedHope #gratefulforthethorns

Of His Own Choosing

Of His Own Choosing

As a very small child
You wooed me through teachers
Who had a heart for You.
I needed You as my Big Brother.

As a young girl
I chose to welcome You
Into my heart.
I needed You as my Protector.

As a young woman
I rededicated my life
And heart to You.
I needed You as my Savior.

As a woman
I began an intense journey
To know You, deeply, intimately.
I needed You as my Healer.

You chose me.
You revealed Your very heart
And Your love for me
Simply because You chose to.

Deuteronomy 7:8-9 – Prayer/Promise

But because the Lord loves you and because He would keep the oath which He had sworn to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know, recognize, and understand therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, Who keeps covenant and steadfast love and mercy with those who love Him and keep His commandments, to a thousand generations,

Ephesians 1:4-6 – Prayer/Promise

Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love. For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will [ because it pleased Him and was His kind intent] — [So that we might be] to the praise and the commendation of His glorious grace (favor and mercy), which He so freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

1 John 4: 10, 15 – Prayer/Promise

In this is love:not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins. Anyone who confesses (acknowledges, owns) that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides (lives, makes His home) in him and he [abides, lives, makes his home] in God.

In Christ

Standard

In Christ
There is no color.
There is no class.
There is no size.
There is no scale of beauty.
There is no sex.
There is no title.
There is no example.
There is no age.
There is no status.
There is no importance.
There is no performance.
There is no ability.
There is no talent.
There is no achievement.
There is no superiority.
There is no intelligence.
There is no degree.
There is no handicap.
There is no greater.
There is no lesser.

For You have striped all of that away,
And declared us all one In Christ.

All have value and worth.
All are beautiful, necessary and needed.
All are talented and able.
All are whole and healed.
All are loved and adored.

For You are the Great Equalizer.

The Real Me

Standard

The Real Me

I am two people.
The Real Me.
And the one I am always at war against.

The Real Me desires to continue on,
No matter what,
To face the fear,
Feel the emotions,
And deal with all that needs to be dealt with
Until nothing else remains.

The one I am always at war against,
Wants to continue hiding,
Continue denying,
Continue harboring,
Dwelling in fear,
Abiding in darkness,
Loneliness,
And self-imposed exile.

Her demands are loud.
Her power is fierce.
Her lies have manipulated and
Controlled my destiny
For far too long.
She will not be permitted to prevail!

The Real Me is empowered by God
To be a Victor.
To obliterate the power of the Generational Curse
And pronounce the Blessing.
To reclaim the ground stolen by Satan,
And rebuild the Ancient Ruins
Long ago devastated through his hand.

Her power is diminishing
As the Real Me grows
In Strength
Wisdom
Love
Grace
And Beauty.

I am beginning to see,
To feel,
To breathe,
To believe.

I am beginning to experience
The Depths of the Father’s
Love,
Mercy,
Peace,
And Joy.

I am beginning to feel His warm embrace.
I am beginning to behold His beautiful Face.

He is my Strength.
He is my Defense.
He is my Protector.
He is freeing the Real Me
From isolation and prison.
He will not let the Real Me give up.

Self-Imposed Exile

Standard

Self-Imposed Exile

Shadows.
Darkness.
Blackness.
Nothingness.
Loneliness.
Isolation.

Sin.

Every wound.
Every injustice.
Every oversight.
Every offense.
Every failure.
Every defeat.

All of the abuse.
All of the humiliation.
All of the shame.
All of the guilt.

Forced out of consciousness.
Refusing to see, to feel, to confront.

Each and every incident
Frozen in time
Retaining its intensity of emotion.
Holding me captive,
Behind its own prison door.
Areas long ago sealed.
Never to be exposed.
Doors bolted.
Entry denied.

Yet I am not alone in my self-imposed exile.

Hatred.
Anger.
Bitterness.
Revenge.
Rage.
Unbearable agony.
Immense Fear.

These are my constant companions.

Mercy.
Grace.
Faith.
Humility.
Repentance.
Love outpoured.
Light.

I hold the keys
To every single prison door
That I hide behind.
Will I allow Him entrance?
Will I follow His lead?
Will I take the chance?

Trust.
Hope.
Unlocking every door.
Walking back through every recorded wrong.
Finishing what began long ago.
Putting away every childish thing.

Stepping out into liberty,
Like I’ve never known before.
Freedom to move,
And room to breathe.

Acceptance.
Righteousness.
Peace.
Joy.
Love.

Home.
