I Am Here

I Am Here

I have not abandoned you to suffer in misery and angst.

I Am here to comfort you.

I have not abandoned you to hunger and want.

I Am here to provide all that you need.

I have not abandoned you in the midst of your pain and grief.

I Am here to dry your tears.

I have not abandoned you stewing in your biting anger and cynicism.

I Am here to plead for you with all that I Am.

I have not abandoned you to languish in powerlessness and fear.

I Am here to protect and defend you.

I Am here.

In You

In You

I am no longer languishing in poverty, hunger, and neglect.

I am filled to overflowing and wholly satisfied.

I am no longer isolated, cut off, and afraid.

I am enveloped by the very warmth of Your presence.

I am no longer enslaved in a prison of shame and guilt.

I am liberated to come and go as my heart chooses.

I am no longer fodder and prey to the enemy.

I am sheltered, defended, and protected by Your hand.

I am no longer dismayed of the power of death.

I am alive eternally in You.

I am no longer lost, aimless, and alone.

I am held firmly where I belong in Your loving embrace.

I am no longer adrift in a sea of nothingness.

I am anchored securely by Your great love for me.

You Whisper My Name

You Whisper My Name

Struggle – early in life
Never accepted
Never good enough
Don’t belong at all

Deep longing
Very painful
Pulled away
Lonely and afraid

Whisper my name
Comforting words
Respond to the need
Declarations of acceptance

Belonging to You
Called by name
Part of Your Family
Accepted and loved

Isaiah 43:1 – Promise, My Personal Paraphrase

You whisper my name and declare that I am Yours.

Finding My Rest in You

Finding My Rest in You

My heart condemns me.
Voices of shame and condemnation
Threaten to drown out the Truth.

I am unlovable.
I am worthless.
I am not capable.

I question my faith.
Do I belong to the Truth?
Will You also condemn me?

You are greater than those voices.
You know everything.
You know my history.

You see my wounds.
You see my humanity.
You see my need of healing.

I am afraid.
Will You will condemn me?
Will You agree with the loud voices?

Speak to me more loudly
Than the voices of shame.
Be greater than my heart.

Nothing is hidden from You.
Be more powerful than my shame.
Let me find rest in Your Love.

With Your Hand on the Doorknob

With Your Hand on the Doorknob

You are my Beginning.
You reached out
And personally chose me.

You courted, wooed,
And beckoned.
Until, at long last,

My heart was undone
And utterly ravished
By a Love unknown.

Threshold upon threshold
We have said goodbye to the old
And embraced the new.

Threshold upon threshold
You have lifted me in Your arms
And carried me o’er.

Threshold upon threshold
You have protected and secured me
From the chains and curses of the past.

How many stories could be shared!
How many precious, tender moments
Treasured up inside my heart!

Threshold upon threshold
With Your hand on the doorknob
And me in Your arms,

For You are my Beginning
And my Ending
And all that lies between.

Extinguishing the Darkness

Extinguishing the Darkness

You are my Light.
I need not fear the darkness,
Even in the very depths of myself.

You know me.
You are with me.
I am not alone.

You are my Defense.
You alone are my Judge.
You are exceedingly merciful and gentle.

I need not waver.
I need only trust Your Hand
As You lead and guide me.

I have no need of anything, save You.
You are my Personal Savior.
You are my Personal Bravery.

In You – I am made well and whole.
In You – I am freed and delivered.
In You – I am made strong and bold.

Shine! Oh, shine in this dark and frightful place!
Envelop me in Your ardently burning Light
And extinguish all my darkness and gloom.

Malachi 4:2

But unto you who revere and worshipfully fear My name shall the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in His wings and His beams, and you shall go forth and gambol like calves [released] from the stall and leap for joy.

Micah 7:8b & 9b

When I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light to me. He will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold His righteous deliverance.

Filled with Joy

Filled with Joy

Truth in my inner being,
This is my desire,
This is my aim.

Cause me to know Truth
Fully from the very center
Of my heart and soul.

Force all lies and doubt to
Be thrusted to the surface,
Removed and replaced by Truth.

Cleanse me of my sin
– secret and known.
Wash me thoroughly.

Let the broken places
Be infused with healing
That I may pour forth praise.

Grant me a heart that is
Both willing and pure
Ever filled with Your joy.

Psalms 51:6-12 – Prayer/Promise

Behold, You desire truth in the inner being; make me therefore to know wisdom in my inmost heart. Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean [ceremonially]; wash me, and I shall [in reality] be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness and be satisfied; let the bones which You have broken rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my guilt and iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Safe With You

Safe With You

You are greater than my heart.
You are greater than my shame.
You are greater than my guilt.

You are greater than the words
Of condemnation that flood my mind.
You are greater than my reproach.

I am safe with You.

You know everything about me.
You are intimately acquainted
With my comings and goings.

You know my hidden pain.
You know my dreams.
You know my sorrows.

I am safe with You.

I can rest quietly
In Your loving embrace
Knowing You love me.

Your desire is to restore me.
Your desire is to cleanse me.
Your desire is to heal me.

I am safe with You – always.

~ Laurie Pontious-Andrews

Isaiah 54:4 – Prayer/Promise

Fear not, for you shall not be ashamed; neither be confounded and depressed, for you shall not be put to shame. For you shall forget the shame of your youth, and you shall not [seriously] remember the reproach of your widowhood any more.

1 John 3:19-20 – Prayer/Promise

By this we shall come to know (perceive, recognize, and understand) that we are of the Truth, and can reassure (quiet, conciliate, and pacify) our hearts in His presence, Whenever our hearts in [tormenting] self-accusation make us feel guilty and condemn us. [For we are in God’s hands.] For He is above and greater than our consciences (our hearts), and He knows (perceives and understands) everything [nothing is hidden from Him].

Moving In Intimate Communion

Moving In Intimate Communion

As I slowly hobble toward You –
Toward all that You are –
Grant me straightened paths.

For I am weak and weary.
My feet are crooked and pained.
My joints are maimed and injured.

I am bowed low and bent over
From the sheer weight
Of my burden and misery.

But You have enveloped me
In Your Grace, Mercy and Love.
I am safe, warm, and protected.

This path has been prepared
For me by Your very own Hand
From before the beginning of time.

Every difficult cautious step I take
Results in a little more healing,
A little more strengthening.

I move in intimate communion
Ever closer to Your Heart
A little deeper into all You are.

Empower my weak and feeble knees.
Grant me all I need to keep moving
Ever forward toward You.

~ Laurie Pontious-Andrews

Hebrews 12:12-13 – Prayer

So then, brace up and reinvigorate and set right your slackened and weakened and drooping hands and strengthen your feeble and palsied and tottering knees, And cut through and make firm and plain and smooth, straight paths for your feet [yes, make them safe and upright and happy paths that go in the right direction], so that the lame and halting [limbs] may not be put out of joint, but rather may be cured.

Holding Nothing Back

Holding Nothing Back

An honest heart before You.
An open heart before You.
An undivided heart before You.
A cleansed heart before You.
An emptied heart before You.

Help me to reside in this place.

Help me to stop hiding.

Help me to stop leaning on things –
empty, dead things – instead of You.

I feel Your nudge.
Help me to yield
And not hold back.

Forgive me my anger,
vanity, and pride.
They are so ugly and vile.
They are repugnant to me.

I declare my heart is safe with You.

~ Laurie Pontious-Andrews

Psalms 32:2b – Prayer/Promise

God holds nothing against you and you’re holding nothing back from him.
