Precipice

Precipice

Obstructed at every turn.
Overshadowed by darkness.

Dread is my closest companion.
Senses dulled through ravaged years.

Unable to move forward.
Unwilling to turn back.

Haunted by echoes of the past,
Overtaken by fear of the future.

Misunderstood and burdensome,
In this place of the here and the not yet.

Each faltering step flocked by hesitancy,
Uncertainty, and agony.

Muddled by haze of the unfamiliar,
Encumbered by what has always been.

Desperate to silence the loud voices
Spewing forth lies and venom.

Straining to hear the gentle whispers
Of Truth and Unconditional Love.

Feebly offering the sacrificial gift
Of trust from a lacerated heart.

Partaking of mere crumbs,
While sustained by the Unseen.

Compelled through friable Hope,
To persist ever forward.

About unabashedhope

The name Unabashed Hope comes from my favorite poem by Emily Dickinson. Unabashed means not embarrassed, disconcerted or ashamed. I believe Emily's poem, Hope is the Thing with Feathers, says it best: Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all, And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the storm That could abash the little bird That kept so many warm. I've heard it in the chilliest land And on the strangest sea; Yet, never, in extremity, It asked a crumb of me.
